Peace for All Time

You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. – Isaiah 26:3

What is your idea of peace? Is it reading a good book while you snuggle in a cozy chair next to a crackling fire on a cold winter’s night? Do you yearn to be left alone to finish a project at work without interruption? Or are your thoughts more global as you pray for peace between nations, between ethnic groups, or between political parties? The peace on offer in this world is momentary – a condition confined to the limits of time.

But God! Is that not a wonderful phrase? But God gives perfect peace – for ALL time. He is the Author of peace, and He offers this gift through His Son. Jesus Himself spoke these comforting words: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid” (John 14:27). In this world, there will be tribulation but, if you accept the gift of Christ’s work on the cross for you, and your focus and trust is in the Lord, His peace will be yours. Though you may have to humbly submit to His will in an uncomfortable or sorrowful situation, be alert to the comfort He provides through His Word and His constant presence.

Perfect peace comes with faith founded on the Rock of Ages; fix your eyes upon Him. “Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock” (Isaiah 26:4). Pray now for all peoples, and especially for this nation’s leaders, that they may be focused on the only One that can give them true peace.

Today’s Verse: Isaiah 26:3

You keep him in perfect peace
    whose mind is stayed on you,
    because he trusts in you.
4 Trust in the Lord forever,
    for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
5 For he has humbled
    the inhabitants of the height,
    the lofty city.
He lays it low, lays it low to the ground,
    casts it to the dust.
6 The foot tramples it,
    the feet of the poor,
    the steps of the needy.”

7 The path of the righteous is level;
    you make level the way of the righteous.
8 In the path of your judgments,
    O Lord, we wait for you;
your name and remembrance
    are the desire of our soul.

O Lord, you will ordain peace for us,
    for you have indeed done for us all our works.
13 O Lord our God,
    other lords besides you have ruled over us,
    but your name alone we bring to remembrance.
