The Optical Illusion

We walk by faith, not by sight. – 2 Corinthians 5:7

“My eyes were playing tricks on me.” No doubt you have experienced an optical illusion like a spiral appearing to move although it is only lines on paper. Daily your eyes send signals to your brain through your retina registering images you believe to be reality. But all it takes is a good optical illusion to make you question the reliability of that process!

A similar process is at play in your spiritual life. The world tells you the difficulties you see ravaging society can only be solved by shifting faith practices further outside of the nation’s daily life. Accepting that argument is similar to believing only what you see!

Your faith applied is like a pair of glasses allowing you to view circumstances from an eternal perspective. Because you know God, you know that nation being divided against nation is nothing new in the human story and, because you have read Scripture, you understand that only His sovereign authority allows any rule or power to exist on Earth. Your faith assures you that what you see on the news is never the whole story. “He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and boundaries of their dwelling place (Acts 17:26).

Pray for believers across America to keep their faith strong, knowing God is rescuing humanity from Satan’s grip, even using the unsettling events you may see on the news. Support faithful leaders when they stand for godly principles in public, and share the reason for your hope to those who only see the illusion of a hopeless world.

9 But, as it is written,

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”—

10 these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.
