Interior Department Promotes Record and Information Sharing Between Indian Schools

The transparency program hopes to promote healing and understanding.

The Department of the Interior announced that it is launching a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to increase document and information sharing between federal Indian boarding schools and the Department. The goal of this transparency program is to gain a better understanding of the abuses that took place in the past at these facilities.

Secretary Deb Haaland expressed the importance of this effort saying, “The first step to healing is acknowledging the painful truths of federal boarding school policies and gaining a fuller understanding of their impacts. Today’s action will help strengthen our efforts to gather necessary information and records so that we can unravel the threads of trauma that linger in Indigenous communities.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God to lead the Interior Department as they work to protect Native American communities.
  • For Secretary Haaland to be guided by the Lord as she leads the Interior Department.
  • That the Bureau of Indian Affairs would better understand what took place at its boarding schools.
