USDA Unveils New Micro Farm Insurance Program

Policy to support small-scale farming.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced last week the development of the Micro Farm policy which allows local, small-scale farms to obtain simplified insurance coverage. The program is offered through Whole-Farm Revenue Protection and is part of the Risk Management Agency’s efforts to serve specialty and organic growers.

“USDA is focused on supporting local and regional food systems, and Micro Farm is one more example of how we’re helping agricultural producers with farms of all shapes and sizes to manage their unique operations and risk,” said Administrator Marcia Bunger. “The Risk Management Agency values collaboration and feedback from our customers, and Micro Farm is one way we’re responding to producers’ needs.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Bunger as she heads the Risk Management Agency.
  • For officials of the USDA as they seek to support small-scale farming.
  • For farmers and crop producers as they face adverse weather conditions and rising costs.
