Worthy to be Praised

Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.  – Revelation 7:12

Sometimes when things go awry, such as financial problems, crippling pain, or broken relationships, you may wonder where God is. The seventh chapter of Revelation describes a great multitude of people of every language, who came out of the great tribulation, with one heart and voice praising God. Undoubtedly, praise and thanksgiving were a regular habit for each of them before they suffered for His name.

The angels and elders also praised God, attributing seven things to Him. Blessing. It is common these days to hear people curse God’s name or curse others in His name. Let your words be counterculture and bless the name of the Lord and bless others. Glory. Glory is God’s powerful, magnificent essence. Believe in God’s presence and pray for His glory to be revealed in your worship. Wisdom. All true wisdom comes from God. These believers who came out of the Great Tribulation knew that in God’s wisdom, His big picture was greater than anything in this life.

Thanksgiving. The Bible says that every good and perfect gift comes from God (James 1:17). Be grateful for the good in your life—provision, loved ones, salvation. Honor. Believers who know who God is, and recognize how vulnerable people are, know to esteem His greatness. Power. Any authority that a person might have on this earth politically, financially or influentially is nothing compared to the Lord. Might. All things are possible with God. He is able to answer your prayers and ultimately His purposes will be accomplished.

As you intercede for the nation, acknowledge all seven of these things belong to God. Make praise and thanksgiving your regular habit.

15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
