Normal Life

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Colossians 3:17

What does a normal day in your life look like? For most people, average days are filled with accomplishing tasks and managing relationships. It can be a challenge to see God’s eternal purpose in what may appear to be ordinary, yet Jesus made an interesting statement regarding YOUR run-of-the-mill life, just before He died.

As Jesus’ disciples were getting the idea that He was leaving, they could not imagine how to carry on without Him. How would God’s Good News move forward? In addressing their questions, He revealed a truth applying to everyone who would follow Him across time.

“Truly, truly I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John 14: 12-13).

Do you see yourself in Christ’s answer? Jesus did nothing that did not bear witness to God’s love for humankind through the Son.  And after His resurrection, Christ gave His disciples (and you) the Holy Spirit to help transform your normal daily life into a work of God, like His! Today, there is nothing you can choose to do, from fixing your car to carpooling the kids to band practice, that cannot be used by God to tell the world of His love.

Give thanks today, that Jesus sent you the Spirit of God rather than a To-Do list to live out your normal daily life. Pray many will respond to His call on their lives today.

19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”
