Supreme Court to Hear Gun Rights and Abortion Cases

Justice Department will argue on side of abortion providers in Texas this week.

This week, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in major cases dealing with abortion and gun rights. On Monday, the Court will be tackling Texas’ recent ban on all abortion after six weeks of gestation. The Department of Justice argues that the Texas law is in violation of the constitutional protections for pregnant individuals under Roe v. Wade. Monday’s hearing will determine if the case can be held in federal court, not the constitutionality of the Texas law.

The second major case the Court will hear this week will be on Wednesday. New York has created a law that allows licensing officials to use discretion when distributing concealed carry permits. A licensing official denied two applications saying the applicants did not demonstrate “proper cause” to carry handguns at all times. The Court will determine if states have the right to place limits on firearms to protect public safety.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the Lord to give the justices wisdom on how to rule in these cases.
  • That God would accomplish His will for the nation through these cases.
  • For officials in the Justice Department as they determine cases to pursue in the future.
