Pentagon Holds Iran Responsible for Drone Strikes

Pentagon spokesman would not discuss specifics of attacks against U.S. troops.

At least five drones teamed with explosives ready to go off upon reaching their targets occurred against American troops in Syria last week. No Americans were hurt or killed in the operations, although bomb fragments were found where U.S. troops sleep.

The Pentagon now says that Iran is reportedly behind the strikes. The drones used in the strike on a U.S. outpost in Syria where American troops are stationed were Iranian, and the Islamic Republic encouraged the attack. Iranian state media claims the strikes were done by Syrian allies, suggesting they were Iranian-backed Syrian rebel groups.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said, “I’m not in a position to get into attribution at this point. We have seen these kinds of attacks in the past from Shia militia groups, which we know are backed and supported by Iran. But I’m not going to talk to specifics on this particular attack.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For military leaders as they assess and determine threats around the world.
  • For the safety of American troops wherever they are stationed or deployed.
  • For wisdom for administration officials as they address situations involving Iran.
