One Faith, One People

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.  – Galatians 3:28

E Pluribus Unum. That proclamation appears boldly on the Great Seal of the United States. Latin for “out of many, one,” its inclusion on the seal was approved by an Act of Congress in 1782. It is not, however, the United States’ motto. That was adopted by Congress in 1956 and is “In God We Trust.” Interestingly, the thirteen letters of E Pluribus Unum are symbolic of the thirteen original states, as are the thirteen stripes on the American flag.

The United States is populated by people of every race, color, creed, and political persuasion. However, out of the many citizens, there is hardly unity. There are tensions on every level: race, national origin, religious viewpoint, and within politics. Not only has there been a breakdown in the citizenry, but there is also a breakdown of the family, and a breakdown in the church.

There is only one solution to fixing the current social trend. There is only one place where oneness can be found. From the beginning, it was God’s desire that His people view one another as He made them… as those who bear His image. But when sin entered in, division of every sort began between humankind. When Christ died, He shed His blood for every person, regardless of pigmentation, language, social status, gender, educational level, or any other human-made differentiation. In Romans 10:12, the apostle Paul writes, “For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.” It is time for believers to take down the barriers that exist among them, setting an example for the rest of the nation. When the family of the Lord is unified, God is glorified.

Pray for a new understanding of what “out of many, one” means in America…among those serving in public office and citizens across the country.

Today’s Verse: Galatians 3:28

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
