U.S. Delegation Meets with Taliban in Qatar

Discussions include Americans who want to leave Afghanistan.

The State Department announced that a delegation from the U.S. met with senior representatives from the Taliban in Qatar this past weekend. Concerns regarding Americans who remain in Afghanistan who would like to leave, as well as humanitarian and security issues, were discussed.

State Department spokesman Ned Price said, “The U.S. delegation focused on security and terrorism concerns and safe passage for U.S. citizens, other foreign nationals, and our Afghan partners, as well as on human rights, including the meaningful participation of women and girls in all aspects of Afghan society.”

He added, “The two sides also discussed the United States’ provision of robust humanitarian assistance, directly to the Afghan people. The discussions were candid and professional with the U.S. delegation reiterating that the Taliban will be judged on its actions, not only its words.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For officials of the State Department as they engaged in diplomatic efforts with Taliban representatives.
  • For wisdom for Secretary of State Blinken as he heads the department.
  • For the president and his administration to seek God’s guidance in dealing with Middle Eastern nations.
  • For the remaining U.S. citizens who want to leave Afghanistan.
