U.S. Declassifies Nuclear Stockpile Information

State Department issues release on weapons for transparency.

The United States released recently declassified information on the national nuclear weapons stockpile last week. The State Department revealed the country has 3,750 nuclear warheads in the stockpile. They stated that 2,000 “are currently retired and awaiting dismantlement.”

The State Department release said, “Increasing the transparency of states’ nuclear stockpiles is important to nonproliferation and disarmament efforts, including commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and efforts to address all types of nuclear weapons, including deployed and non-deployed, and strategic and non-strategic.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and his administration as they craft nuclear policies and strategies.
  • For officials in the State Department as they engage in diplomatic efforts with foreign dignitaries.
  • For the U.S. to be effective in averting global nuclear threats.
