U.S. Concerned About Taiwan and China

China ignores U.S. warnings, continues warplane flights over Taiwan.

On Friday, China flew 38 military aircraft into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone. On Saturday, it sent 30 planes toward Taiwan.

On Sunday, State Department spokesperson Ned Price stated, “The United States is very concerned by the People’s Republic of China’s provocative military activity near Taiwan, which is destabilizing, risks miscalculations, and undermines regional peace and stability. We urge Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure and coercion against Taiwan.”

On Monday, Taiwan officials said 52 Chinese military aircraft entered the self-ruled island’s airspace, the largest incursion by China yet.

The United States Taiwan Relations Act of1979 requires the U.S. to have a policy “to provide Taiwan with arms of a defensive character,” and “to maintain capacity of the United States to resist any resort or force or other forms of coercion that would jeopardize the security, or the social or economic system, of the people of Taiwan.”

Taiwan has maintained that it is a sovereign country separate from China, which it accused of “wantonly” engaging in military aggression, damaging regional peace. China, meanwhile, earlier this year stated that “Taiwan independence means war.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Blinken to seek God’s wisdom in interactions with the Chinese Communist Party regarding Taiwan.
  • For U.S. military leaders as the Chinese military continues to show force making against Taiwan.
  • For the U.S. to stand ready to honor its agreement concerning Taiwan’s protection.
