Speak Up

I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation.  – Psalm 40:10

Quicksand is a colloid consisting of fine granular material such as sand, silt, or clay and water. It forms in saturated loose sand when the sand is suddenly agitated. When water in the sand cannot escape, it creates a liquified soil that loses strength and cannot support weight. The saturated sediment might appear solid until a change in pressure or the shock of movement initiates liquification. The quick, panicky movements of a person caught in the quicksand only cause them to sink in further.

As you look about, it is easy to identify those people who are caught in spiritual quicksand. However, others may be experiencing something not as evident—they could be in what one pastor called “slow mud,” but they are caught nonetheless. They need help in order to be extricated.

In Psalm 40, David is praising the Lord for lifting him out of a bog, setting his feet upon a rock, and making his steps secure. As he declares in today’s verse, David’s goal is to speak up and tell what the Lord had done for him.  Whether from quicksand, slow mud, or from the ravages of sin, you have experienced the same great delivery if you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ’s atoning work on the cross of Calvary. Do you speak up about what God has done in your life? Are you sharing the hope that you have for an eternity with the Lord?

Remember to always speak the truth in love. God has been faithful to you; be faithful to Him in your testimony. Pray for Americans across the nation to have listening ears to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and find the Only Way to escape the quicksand of sin.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 40:10

I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;
    I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;
I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness
    from the great congregation.

Your word is a lamp to my feet
    and a light to my path.
106 I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,
    to keep your righteous rules.
107 I am severely afflicted;
    give me life, O Lord, according to your word!
108 Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O Lord,
    and teach me your rules.
109 I hold my life in my hand continually,
    but I do not forget your law.
