Interior Secretary Attends Satellite Launch

Landsat 9 will give Interior New insight into Earth’s geology.

On Monday, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland was at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California to attend the launch of the Landsat 9 Satellite. The satellite was designed by the U.S. Geological Survey to monitor and measure Earth’s geological formations and surface features. This will give the Interior Department more data on how best to conserve the environment.

Secretary Haaland said of the occasion, “Today’s successful launch is a major milestone in the nearly 50-year joint partnership between USGS and NASA who, for decades, have partnered to collect valuable scientific information and use that data to shape policy with the utmost scientific integrity.” She continued, “Landsat 9 will provide data and imagery to help make science-based decisions on key issues including water use, wildfire impacts, coral reef degradation, glacier and ice-shelf retreat, and tropical deforestation.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the U.S. Geological Survey as officials seek to better understand God’s creation.
  • For Secretary Haaland to look to the Lord for direction as she leads the Interior Department.
  • For the Interior Department as new efforts are made to steward U.S. lands.
