Border Patrol Must Stop Using Horses in Del Rio

Legislators falsely charged agents used whips to apprehend Haitians.

At a press briefing Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said President Biden’s administration is prohibiting Border Patrol agents from using horses in the Del Rio, Texas, sector. She called images “horrible” that showed a Border Patrol agent grabbing one of the migrant’s shirts and noted that an investigation is ongoing.

Some legislators have alleged that the agents wielded whips against Haitian immigrants, a claim that was debunked by Secretary Mayorkas and Border Patrol chief Raul Ortiz, who noted that agents were utilizing long reins to control their horses in difficult terrains.

Other Border Patrol sources have noted that agents will spin or twirl their reins in order to move the horse forward as a signal to the horse. No images have thus far been presented of migrants being hit by the reins. The agents who have been accused of using the reins as whips have been moved to administrative duty.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Mayorkas as he heads DHS.
  • For clarity for those in the CBP investigating the allegations regarding rounding up Haitian migrants.
  • For the president’s administration to update its policies to restore order to the southern border.
