Interior Introduces Plan to Restore Tribal Lands

Seeks to acquire land to place into protective trust.

This week, the Department of Interior announced that it had begun the process of consulting tribal leaders about consolidating and redistributing land to sovereign nations to better maintain historical homelands. The Interior Department would place land into a trust, allowing self-determination by tribal governments.

Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs Bryan Newland said that at the Interior Department, “we have an obligation to work with Tribes to protect their lands and ensure that each community has a homeland where its citizens can live together to lead safe and fulfilling lives. These important actions are a step in the right direction to restore homelands that will strengthen Tribal communities.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For officials of the Interior as they coordinate with tribal leaders.
  • That Assistant Secretary Newland would seek God’s discernment as he seeks to improve tribal relations.
  • For the president’s administration as they work to preserve tribal lands.
