Defense Secretary Austin Warns of al-Qaida Resurgence

Taliban could aid organization responsible for 9/11 attacks.

On Thursday, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin joined Qatar’s Defense Minister Khalid to openly discuss the threats to peace in the Middle East following the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. Of note was Secretary Austin’s belief that the Taliban takeover of Kabul could result in al-Qaida, the organization responsible for the September 11 attacks on the United States, regaining a foothold in the Middle East.

During his remarks, Secretary Austin said, “The whole community is kind of watching to see what happens and whether or not al-Qaida has the ability to regenerate in Afghanistan. The nature of al-Qaida is they will always attempt to find space to grow and regenerate, whether it’s there, whether it’s in Somalia, or whether it’s in any other ungoverned space. I think that’s the nature of the organization.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That the president and Joint Chiefs of Staff would seek God’s direction in defending the United States.
  • For Secretary Austin as he leads the Defense Department.
  • For peace in the Middle East.
