Introductions

The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. – Exodus 34:6

Introductions. Are you good at making them? It is said the key to making a good introduction is connecting people by highlighting what they gain from knowing each other.

The ancient Israelite nation thought they knew God, but when Moses went up Mount Sinai to receive God’s laws they quickly forgot about Him and adopted abominable religious practices. After sending him down to discover the sad reality of the entire nation abandoning faith, God called Moses right back up that mountain. When Moses arrived, God, covered in a cloud, personally offered a beautiful description of Himself asking Moses to share it with the people below. In essence, He asked Moses to re-introduce Him to His people.

Merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and possessing an endless supply of faithful love – is that how you would introduce God? Further into their conversation, God asked Moses to also reveal that He is full of forgiveness for the repentant heart, yet will exact justice for those who are without remorse. Are you able to share the multiple aspects of God’s character with others?

Humankind has not changed. There are numerous religions requiring great human effort, completely ignoring God’s introduction of Himself. Who would not want to know the real God who has mercy and forgiveness? As if His words were not enough, Jesus Christ came into the world showing people that God is exactly who He described Himself to be. Pray for many holding public office in America to become genuinely acquainted with God, discovering the beauty of His salvation through an introduction to His Son.

Today’s Verse: Exodus 34:6

And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.

“I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me.
