God’s Affection

Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. – Psalm 36:5

How much does God love you as an individual? Is His faithfulness and commitment to you something you can grasp? Today’s verse says that His love is steadfast and extends to the Heavens, His faithfulness to the clouds. Can you imagine God the Father pleased with you, shining His favor on you, smiling, and singing over you? Have you ever seen a crowd of doting aunts, uncles, and grandparents around a baby or a toddler? Could it be possible that the Lord feels the same type of affection for His children?

Maybe you find it difficult to imagine God taking pleasure in His people. You may even feel envious when you think how God favored Daniel or Mary, or when He smiled His pleasure on Solomon when he asked for wisdom. What lofty affirmation He bestowed on Jesus when He said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17) or when He called David “a man after His own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14). Jesus even told a parable symbolic of God commending faithful servants (Matthew 25:14-21).

This kind of favor is called grace and it is found in Jesus. When you yield yourself to Jesus, think of the Father smiling and singing over you. Imagine Him saying on that day, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” God is faithful to the name of His Son. As you make Him Savior and Lord, you will discover His faithfulness to you. As you intercede for others, especially those in authority in the United States, pray that people will seek His favor and His wisdom. Pray also that more Americans will learn to rely on His steadfast love and faithfulness.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 36:5

    your faithfulness to the clouds.

Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
    his praise in the assembly of the godly!
Let Israel be glad in his Maker;
    let the children of Zion rejoice in their King!
Let them praise his name with dancing,
    making melody to him with tambourine and lyre!
For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
    he adorns the humble with salvation.
Let the godly exult in glory;
    let them sing for joy on their beds.
