Congress Passes Repatriation Aid Bill

Emergency assistance for Americans returning from Afghanistan goes to the president’s desk.

In an unusual step Tuesday, Vice President Kamala Harris presided over a pro forma session of the Senate in which legislation aimed at helping Americans repatriated from Afghanistan was passed.

By a quick voice vote, the Senate approved the Emergency Repatriation Assistance for Returning Americans Act, which will provide up to $10 million in temporary assistance to Americans returning home from Afghanistan.

The House passed the measure last week, and the bill is now at the desk of President Joe Biden awaiting his signature.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of Congress as they attempt to address the needs of the nation.
  • For the president and his advisors as he considers and signs legislation passed by Congress.
  • For Americans evacuated from Afghanistan that need assistance in repatriating to the U.S.
