New Unemployment Numbers Announced

Labor Department reports fourth-straight week of fewest new claims of the pandemic.

On Thursday, the Department of Labor released the latest data on the state of the U.S. job market. It was another week of promising numbers as new unemployment claims declined to a pandemic low for the fourth week in a row. Total jobless claims fell by 29,000 to a total of 348,000 new unemployment benefit claims. Before the start of the pandemic, new claims hovered at about 220,000 new claims per week.

President Biden stated, “When I took office in January, an average of more than 830,000 Americans were filing initial unemployment insurance claims. That number has fallen by more than half to below 378,000.”

The president also responded, ”The number of Americans filing initial unemployment insurance claims fell to the lowest level since the pandemic began. This reflects the important progress we are making in our economic recovery.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For officials in the Labor Department as they support American workers and employers.
  • That the president and his administration would seek God’s insight on the economy.
  • For the Lord’s purpose to be accomplished in the United States.
