Congress Passes Capitol Security Bill

Bill includes funding for Afghan interpreter visas.

This week, both the House and Senate passed an emergency supplemental spending bill that would secure funding for the U.S. Capitol and the Capitol Police.   President Biden is expected to sign the $2.1 billion measure.

The bill includes almost $1 billion for Capitol security: $100 million for the Capitol Police, $300 million for security measures, and $500 million for the National Guard, which concluded its mission at the Capitol in May.

Also included in the legislation is roughly $1.1 billion for the special immigrant visa program to assist with Afghan interpreters coming to the United States as American troops withdraw from the nation’s longest war.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for the president as he considers the hastily passed legislation.
  • For members of Congress as they seek additional security measures.
  • For the Capitol Hill Police as they protect legislators.
