Future Grace

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope. – Psalm 130:5

If you could peek over the horizon of time, what would you want to know about the future? According to recent Pew Research, around 2.2 billion dollars is spent yearly on psychic services in the United States. And the trend is increasing by 2.6 percent a year for those between 30 and 64 years of age. Given the state of the world, it is not surprising that people will grasp at any type of hope to prepare themselves for what will happen next.

Times of social upheaval and distress fuel extreme behavior. Savvy marketers peddle fear, encouraging you to purchase expensive and unneeded products “just in case.” Generous people may stop supporting needed charitable efforts in order to hoard and stockpile resources. But can anyone ever have enough money, food, or protection to have a completely secure future? No.

Whatever happens next, you can be sure it is part of God’s redemptive plan playing out for both Earth and humankind. Events are allowed to transpire in a manner to bring both people and nations to the knowledge of God’s Son and His glory. That is really all you ever need to know about the future.

“God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him” (1 Thessalonians 5:9). Pray for churches and believers across America, and around the world, to be bold in trusting His Word and the promises of His grace, for today and every day to come.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 130:5

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
    and in his word I hope;

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
    of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers assail me
    to eat up my flesh,
my adversaries and foes,
    it is they who stumble and fall.
Though an army encamp against me,
    my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
    yet I will be confident.
One thing have I asked of the Lord,
    that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
    and to inquire in his temple.
For he will hide me in his shelter
    in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
    he will lift me high upon a rock.
