Interior Explores Abandoned Mine Restoration

President’s administration plans to create new green jobs.

On Tuesday, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland traveled to Pennsylvania with National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy to discuss federal programs designed to restore abandoned mines. It is the goal of President Biden’s administration to help provide strong employment for those who used to work in mining industries by creating a federal employment program that would reduce pollution and the effects of climate change.

Secretary Haaland expressed the importance of the reclamation projects saying, “Hardworking communities like coal miners in Pennsylvania helped power our country. With critical investments to reclaim abandoned mine lands and plug orphan wells, the Department of the Interior is wholly committed to helping working families who face hazardous pollution, toxic water levels, and land subsidence both during mining and long after coal companies have moved on.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God to help the Interior Department to reduce pollution in mining communities.
  • For Secretary Haaland as she leads the effort to renew abandoned mines.
  • For National Climate Advisor McCarthy as the administration seeks to prevent climate change.
