DHS Secretary Announces New Leaders

Acting assistant and under secretaries in counterterrorism and intelligence.

On Friday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced via letter that John Cohen will fill in as the new head of the Office of Intelligence and Analysis. He will act as the “senior official performing the duties of the undersecretary,” and will be able to step into temporary leadership immediately without Senate confirmation.

Mr. Cohen, who has over 30 years of experience in law enforcement and national security, will continue to in his role as the coordinator for counterterrorism in addition to his new responsibilities.

In the same letter, Secretary Mayorkas announce Samantha Vinograd as the new acting assistant secretary for Counterterrorism and Threat Prevention in the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plan.
