Job Openings Hit Record 9.2 Million

Unemployment claims increase to 373,000.

June was one of the best months of the job market recovery since the start of the pandemic with a four-week average of 394,500 claims. The Labor Department released its data for the week of June 28 on Thursday. The report found that new unemployment aid requests increased by about 2,000 last week to a total of 373,000 new claims.

For the third straight month, the number of available jobs has set a record. The demand for labor continues as the economy fully reopens and businesses scramble to keep up with soaring sales for goods and services. The competition for workers has given job seekers the upper hand. A record 4 million people quit their jobs two months ago, most to take a better or better-paying position.

The number of jobs available is high in almost every industry and in most parts of the country. Yet while there are almost as many job openings now as there are unemployed people, the jobs are not necessarily located where the unemployment is highest.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For officials in the Labor Department as they support American business and workers.
  • For the president and his advisors to seek the Lord’s direction on how to help the nation recover economically.
  • For Labor Secretary Walsh to be given wisdom from God to lead the Department.
  • For business owners who are seeking employees to fill the millions of job openings.
