The End in Mind

I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. – Philippians 1:6

The question nearly every child hears is “what do you want to be when you grow up?” While it is mostly a conversation filler, it is also a profound inquiry. What if every child not only knew what they wanted to be as an adult but also what would suit their personality and desires best, bringing them maximum financial and social success? Wouldn’t it be amazing to settle that question by age six, so every future decision would only strengthen and deepen life’s journey?

Beginning with the end in mind is an effective psychological tool whose origin has been claimed by many, including Stoic philosophers and modern businessmen, but the idea really has its roots in God’s character. In reading the book of Genesis, by the time you reach chapter three, you already read several Messianic revelations and discover that God’s plan to rescue humanity was already accomplished at the dawn of humanity!

The same is true for every follower of Christ. Every life event, regardless if it is wonderful or gut-wrenching, is there to guide you to God’s specific end. “Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will” (Ephesians 1:4-5).

Pray for America’s decision-makers to seek God’s plan for the nation’s future and depend on Him for direction. And thank Him for the end He has designed for all nations and people in history, “that God may be all in all” (1 Corinthians 15:28).

Today’s Verse: Philippians 1:6

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord,
    for they have heard the words of your mouth,
and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord,
    for great is the glory of the Lord.
For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly,
    but the haughty he knows from afar.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
    you preserve my life;
you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
    and your right hand delivers me.
The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;
    your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
    Do not forsake the work of your hands.
