Last Word

For I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. – Job 42:2

Have you ever met someone that HAD to have the last word? Insecure people attempt to speak last so they can feel that they are right, but that is no substitute for real power. Though He doesn’t need it, Almighty God, as Creator and Sustainer of the entire universe, has the last word. In His sovereignty, He is both first and final authority over all things.

As the United States of America prepares to celebrate another birthday, feeling overwhelmed by the magnitude of the challenges the nation faces is a tremendous temptation. In experiencing these difficulties, some people point fingers and assign blame to those they believe are responsible for the nation’s problems. However, the book of Job in the Bible offers a good perspective on navigating difficult times

Before Job endured any suffering, God agreed to allow it into his life. Satan orchestrated the pain, but God set the parameters. Likewise, He has pre-determined the level of distress the enemy will be allowed to bring upon Earth. America may endure significant loss before a new era arrives. However, the same Sovereign One has also pre-provided the hope through Christ to sustain His followers through any scenario; “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with that temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Celebrate America’s anniversary with prayer. Ask that those in authority in the nation will seek God, finding Him trustworthy for guidance and wisdom, and bring new blessings on the land and to the people today.

Today’s Verse: Job 42:2

2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
