When God Rejoices

  The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love, he will exult over you with loud singing. – Zephaniah 3:17

Today’s verse gives a beautiful picture of God’s love. First, it says, “The Lord God is in your midst.” His Holy Spirit lives right inside of those who trust in Christ. “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16). Second, it says He is “a mighty one who will save.” Believers in Jesus are saved from sin, death, and separation from God in hell to living a life of grace, faith, and eternity with Him in heaven. “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

Third, “He will rejoice over you with gladness.” It makes God happy when you come to Him in prayer. “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8). Fourth, “He will quiet you by his love.” Jesus is peace to the believer. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction” (1 Corinthians 1:3-4). Fifth, “He will exult over you with loud singing.” Imagine God rejoicing over You with loud singing! Consider Luke 15:10, “There is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

In your quiet time today, meditate on who He is and what He desires for you. Think about His love, mercy, and forgiveness. Imagine, one day, entering into His presence in Heaven with Him singing over you. Intercede for your loved ones and the United States, praying for the repentance and salvation of its leaders and citizens.

Today’s Verse: Zephaniah 3:17

The Lord your God is in your midst,
    a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
    he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.

For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.
So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
