In the News…

Jewish lawmakers in the House of Representatives have responded to their colleague Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota after the latter tweeted about “unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan and the Taliban.” The twelve House members issued a statement requesting she “clarify her words.”

Some House members, including Brad Schneider of Illinois, are questioning Representative Omar’s comparison of the Arab terrorist group Hamas to Israel, and concerns about anti-Semitism have been raised.

The group said, “The United States and Israel are imperfect and, like all democracies, at times deserving of critique but false equivalencies give cover to terrorist groups. We urge Congresswoman Omar to clarify her words placing the U.S. and Israel in the same category as Hamas and the Taliban.”

The other representatives who joined Schneider are Jake Auchincloss of Massachusetts, Ted Deutch of Florida, Lois Frankel of Florida, Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, Elaine Luria of Virginia, Kathy Manning of North Carolina, Jerry Nadler of New York, Dean Phillips of Minnesota, Kim Schrier of Washington, Brad Silverman of California, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida.
