Labor Department Releases Unemployment Report

Sixth straight week of lower rate of new claims.

The Department of Labor released its report on the current status of the workforce on Thursday finding for the sixth straight week in a row new unemployment applications decreased. A total of 376,000 Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week, which is 9,000 fewer than the prior week.

A total of about 3.5 million Americans are still receiving unemployment benefits -down from 3.8 million the week before. The month of May saw the U.S. economy add 559,000 new jobs. However, employers have struggled to fill all available openings, leading the governors of 25 states to end additional unemployment benefits early to spur people back into the workforce.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the Labor Department as it evaluates employment and labor trends.
  • For the president’s administration as they assess methods to support the economy.
  • For discernment for legislators to help provide a stable working environment for Americans.
