Veterans to Receive Expedited Benefits

Veterans Affairs Department and Congress both working on coverage for toxic exposure.

The Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act of 2021 has been introduced by House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. The legislation would serve to expedite coverage for veterans who have been exposed to toxins while serving overseas. A list of 23 respiratory illnesses and cancers has been compiled to receive disability benefits.

On Thursday, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs announced it would be creating a list of conditions believed to be related to the exposure of veterans to air-quality issues and burn pits while serving in the Persian Gulf. Asthma and sinusitis are to be included in the list of chronic respiratory illnesses.

“VA is establishing a holistic approach to determining toxic exposure presumption going forward,” said VA Secretary McDonough. “Many of our nation’s veterans have waited a long time for these benefits. VA will not make them wait any longer.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Congress as they negotiate health coverage for veterans.
  • For Secretary McDonough as new rules are implemented for veterans’ benefits.
  • For healing and restoration for veterans who are dealing with chronic illness as the result of their service.
