Vandenberg Air Force Base Renamed as Space Force Base

California central coast base conducts defense, science, and commercial orbital launches.

Major General DeAnna Burt, Commander of the Combined Force Space Component Command, presided over the renaming ceremony of Vandenberg Air Force Base this month. The designation as a Space Force installation “is critical to establishing a distinct culture and identity for the Space Force,” a base statement said.

Major General DeAnna Burt said, “For decades, Vandenberg Air Force Base has been a focal point – indeed, in many cases, the starting point for space operations across the Department of Defense and the Department of the Air Force. It has long been known as “Space Country”, and that moniker is well-earned.”

Test launches of ballistic missiles and orbital launches have long been made from Vandenberg. The base’s host unit has also been redesignated from the 30th Space Wing to Space Launch Delta 30.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the leaders of the U.S. Space Force as they oversee operations and functions of that branch.
  • For wisdom for Secretary Austin as he heads the Defense Department.
  • For military personnel working to protect U.S. interests in space.
