Senator Romney Supports January 6 Commission

Majority Leader Schumer moves to begin debate in Senate.

On Monday, Senator Mitt Romney announced that he was ready to support a bill creating a commission to investigate the events that led to the violence at the U.S. Capitol on January 6. Senator Romney is the first member of the minority party in the Senate to openly support the bill which would need a total of 60 votes to pass the Senate filibuster.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has stated that he will bring the bill to the floor to begin debate. Ending that debate requires 60 votes to move forward, thereby opening the door for the first legislative filibuster of the 117th Congress.

Senate Minority Leader McConnell has publicly opposed the bill, stating that it is ”a purely political exercise that adds nothing to the sum total of information.” He added, “All of these aspects of it are being dealt with in one way or another already.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the Senators to have discernment on whether or not the commission would be beneficial.
  • That Senator Schumer would seek God’s wisdom as he leads the Senate.
  • For Senator McConnell as he directs members of his party.
