Faithful Encourager

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus.  – Romans 15:5

Harmony in music is a blending of sounds to make a beautiful, rich composition that may stir your heart. Harmony within a group of people can be one of purpose, but that may be negative or positive. In the time after the Flood, “the whole earth had one language and the same words,” and their purpose became one of building a tower to the heavens so they could make a name for themselves (Genesis 11:1-4). The intent was to prove their sufficiency apart from God. The Lord changed the unity of that situation to one confused by new and different languages which dispersed the peoples over the face of the earth.

God’s intervening in that situation was one of discipline. Look back at the description of Him in today’s verse. He is the God of endurance and encouragement – One who is patient with you and will comfort you in affliction. The example He gives to believers in Christ should guide you to live in harmony with one another, taking every opportunity to be an encourager to others. There is not one whose faith is so strong that they do not need a good word; neither is anyone so weak that they themselves cannot encourage another.

In these times of uncertainty, keep steadfast in the truth of God’s Word, unified with fellow believers in the principles He has set out in Scripture. Pray for each other, and pray for those who govern this nation. May God’s mercy rest upon this country through the prayers of His Church. Then encourage those around you to trust and rely solely on Him.

Today’s Verse: Romans 15:5

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,

The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
    he frustrates the plans of the peoples.
11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
    the plans of his heart to all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
    the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!

Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him,
    on those who hope in his steadfast love,
19 that he may deliver their soul from death
    and keep them alive in famine.
20 Our soul waits for the Lord;
    he is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart is glad in him,
    because we trust in his holy name.
22 Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us,
    even as we hope in you.
