Interior Announces First Native American Chief of Staff

Secretary Haaland to focus department on issues important to Native Americans.

On Friday, the Department of the Interior announced that Lawrence Roberts will serve as its next Chief of Staff. A citizen of the Oneida Nation, his appointment is the first of a Native American to serve in this role. Secretary Deb Haaland, who is herself the first Indigenous Senate-confirmed Cabinet secretary, has stated in the past that she wants her administration to center on issues that are important to the Native American community.

Secretary Haaland expressed her enthusiasm for the newly appointed members of the Interior saying, “As the Interior Department continues its work to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time, these talented and accomplished leaders will play a key role in helping advance the Department’s mission. I am thrilled to have these new team members join us at the Interior Department and look forward to working together to pursue a clean energy future.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Lawrence Roberts to seek God’s guidance in his new role.
  • That God would help Secretary Haaland as she leads the Interior Department.
  • That the Interior Department would have discernment in addressing issues that impact Native peoples.
