In the News…

In the wake of the verdict against the Minneapolis police officer charged in the death of George Floyd, people have turned to Washington seeking action.

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott said he has plans to reintroduce legislation on police reform in the coming weeks. It represents a compromise from a similar bill he introduced last year with Representative Karen Bass of California and Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey.

“There is a way to put more of the onus or the burden on the department or on the employer rather than the employee,” Senator Scott said. “I think that is a logical step forward.”

The group is “on the verge of wrapping this up in the next week or two,” Senator Scott said, adding “I think we’ve made tremendous progress.”
