PRAYER ALERT – Verdict Reached in Chauvin Trial

Jury rules to find Derek Chauvin guilty on all counts.

UPDATE 7:00 PM EDT

President Joe Biden addressed the nation following the verdict announcement. He said, “This is a time for this country to come together, tonight, as Americans—we can never be a safe harbor for hate in America.” The president added that “This can be a moment of significant change,” and urged Congress to work on additional Police reform legislation in response.

UPDATE 5:10 PM EDT

After 10 hours of deliberation, the jury ruled to find Derek Chauvin guilty on all counts, second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

Chauvin will return to court in 4 weeks for sentencing.

UPDATE 4:30 PM EDT

The jury has returned with a verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin regarding the death of George Floyd. Philonise Floyd, the brother of the deceased, will be present for the reading of the verdict. Chauvin had pleaded not guilty to all charges.

President Joe Biden is expected to closely monitor the situation in Minnesota and will watch the verdict from the White House. He will also address the nation concerning the outcome. The president spoke with George Floyd’s family and said ahead of the verdict, “They’re calling for peace and tranquility no matter what that verdict is.” He added, “I’m praying the verdict is the right verdict.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will also deliver an address after the verdict.

The Minnesota National Guard has been deployed to support law enforcement as rioting has already occurred in parts of that state.
