Just Right Time

You know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. – Romans 13:11

Humans are time travelers. In your mind you can move about without the aid of machinery. For example, think about the deep past, what do you imagine geologic earth was like shortly after creation? Now shift gears and go a little forward, what do you hope to be doing this time next year?

The Ancient Greeks had two words for time, Chronos, which refers to the sequential marching along of time, and Kairos, which means an opportune time or the “just right” time for action.  Jesus had an incredible sense of Kairos. In the gospel accounts, His disciples were continually asking Him, “why didn’t you do this or go there?” His reply was simply, “the hour has not yet come.”  But when the time was right for Him to do the work of salvation for mankind, He boldly acknowledged it, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified” (John 12:23).

Jesus invites you to join him in Kairos, “We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work” (John 9:4). Chronos will bring an end to the opportunities to share the hope of Christ to a hurting world.

What is it “just the right time” for in your life today? You can be sure the time is right to pray for those leading America. Ask that people in decision-making positions will seek God to find salvation in Christ while the opportunity is at hand.

Today’s Verse: Romans 13:11

Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.

20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For he says,

“In a favorable time I listened to you,
and in a day of salvation I have helped you.”

Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
