Senate Majority Leader Moves to Legalize Cannabis

Pledges to bring bill forward with or without the president’s support.

Over the weekend, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced his intention to move a cannabis legalization bill through the Senate. He noted President Biden’s disinterest in ending the prohibition and stated that he would work to make his case to the president before moving a bill forward. However, Senator Schumer made it clear that the measure would continue forward with or without the president’s support.

Senator Schumer also made his case for allowing adults to use cannabis saying, “when a few of the early states — Oregon and Colorado — wanted to legalize, all the opponents talked about the parade of horribles: Crime would go up. Drug use would go up. Everything bad would happen. [However,] the legalization of states worked out remarkably well.” The House of Representatives has already passed a legalization bill, however, the timeline for such a vote in the Senate is uncertain.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That the Senate members would seek God’s direction as the legalization of cannabis is considered.
  • For the president to be led by the Lord regarding the signing of the Senate’s legislation.
