Resist

Be sober-minded, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. – 1 Peter 5:8

How effective are you today as an ambassador for Christ and the Gospel? You don’t have to look far to spot Christians who are tied up in knots over the current political situation and its accompanying cancel culture and other changes that are happening too fast to keep up. How about you? Are you being “eaten alive” by fear and worry? Has the adversary, as a roaring lion in today’s verse, been nibbling at your faith and your knowledge that God is still in control?

You know that, since your soul has been saved eternally, the enemy’s objective is to keep you from being a reproductive follower of Jesus. James, Peter, and Paul all tell you that you must resist the devil, but how do you do that in such uncertain times as these?

First, your ability to resist the devil is found in your willingness to just submit to God. Then, be aware of the enemy’s schemes. 2 Corinthians 2:11 says, “So that we would not be outwitted by Satan, … we are not ignorant of his designs.” Be warned that he will misuse Scripture to try to trick you just as he did with Jesus when the Lord was tempted in the wilderness or Eve in the Garden… so know your Bible’s defenses. Finally, know that, though the lion is prowling about, the Lord is with you just as He was with Daniel.

If you are feeling oppressed, pour out your heart to the Lord, submit to His plans for you, resist every impulse to stop praying, and stick close to Jesus and His Word. Intercede for members of Congress who are being tempted to move away from what they know is right, but to stand, resist, and put their trust in God.

Today’s Verse: 1 Peter 5:8

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
