What’s New?

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. – Galatians 2:20

If you have been a Christian for a long time, there may seem to be nothing new in your life. You may work at the same job, have the same spouse, go to the same church, and say similar prayers from day-to-day. After the initial salvation experience, and learning what it means to be a Christian, you may wonder, What’s new? The reality is that you are made new in Christ.

The Apostle Paul, in today’s verse, says that he had been crucified in Christ and it was no longer him living, but Christ living within him. That kind of life can generate joy, excitement, and a sense of adventure even as you go about daily life. Paul says that believers are called and designed for good works. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10). Living the life of Jesus means taking our particular “bent,” gifts, talents, and resources to love God and others.

What desires has God put in your heart? What are you passionate about? What are your talents? What have you received from God? How can you use those things to love God and others? God wants you to be about those things and spend less time on the trivial or with bad habits. Does the time and money you spend reflect your God-given priorities? Keep prayer at the top of your to-do list. Pray that He will have His way in your life, the nation, and how people, including those in government, treat each other day to day.

Today’s Verse: Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
