Top Level US-China Meeting Set Next Week

Range of issues will be discussed.

On March 18, Secretary of State Antony Blinken will meet with top Chinese officials in Alaska. It marks the first high-level in-person contact between the two countries since the new administration began.

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will also join them in Anchorage. The two sides will discuss “a range of issues” according to the State Department, but no details were provided.

The US-China meeting will come after the secretary of state holds his first meeting of the Quad group of countries – the United States, India, Japan, and Australia, as the administration looks to boost its diplomacy in Asia to counter China’s growing influence. He will then travel to South Korea for meetings there, before returning with the stopover to meet with the Chinese officials.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will also attend the meetings in Tokyo and Seoul earlier in the week.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary of State Blinken and the group who will be traveling with him, their safety and good health during their trip to Asia.
  • For productive meetings with the top-level Chinese officials as disagreements continue over policies relative to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other Chinese claims.
