Change

I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. – Ezekiel 36:26

Transformation, metamorphosis… it is one of the oldest concepts in literature. Even the oldest form of poetry known, The Epic of Gilgamesh, found in Sumerian cuneiform, is rife with shapeshifting and even terrifying mutations. Today, if you scroll through your favorite movie streams, you will notice the theme has not been exhausted. Superheroes and villains alike are interesting because they alter their appearance and abilities quickly.

Maybe the reason transformation is such a captivating story is that it is THE story of all humanity. Creator God, the perfect Author of Life, sees the plight of humanity. Broken people, sincere in desire and Herculean in effort, remain hopelessly lost, unworthy to exist in God’s holy presence. What is His answer? His response makes complete cinematic sense… transformation.

God provides His beloved people a way to be remade, an option to be acceptable in His sight. But only those willing to trust Him fully receive His solution.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them” (2 Corinthians 5:17-19).

God’s plan for rescuing humankind is not some entertaining idea. It is a spiritual reality through the resurrection power of Jesus Christ. Pray for the story of America to be one of reconciliation. Ask God to bring healing change to the nation and in the world.

Today’s Verse: Ezekiel 36:26

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
    wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
    let the bones that you have broken rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins,
    and blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
    and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence,
    and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
    and uphold me with a willing spirit.
