Census Bureau and HUD Show Increase in Home Sales

January 2021 residential sales higher than estimated.

This past week, the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Census Bureau released a joint report with statistics on residential home sales for January 2021. The median sale price was $346,400 for the month of January, with an average price of $408,800.

The release stated, “Sales of new single-family houses in January 2021 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 923,000, according to estimates released jointly today by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. This is 4.3 percent above the revised December rate of 885,000 and is 19.3 percent above the January 2020 estimate of 774,000.”
