Vice President Breaks Senate Tie on Budget Vote

Bill sets a “blueprint” for COVID relief package.

After a 15-hour “vote-a-thon” as members of the Senate considered multiple amendments to the budget bill, the final Senate vote was 50-50, giving Vice President Kamala Harris her first opportunity to cast a deciding tie-breaking vote to adopt the bill.  Members feel that it has set a “blueprint” for the $1.9 trillion virus relief package that may come up next week.

Senate Budget Chairman Bernie Sanders of Vermont said adoption means help is on the way to those suffering from an “economic collapse.” He said, “Tonight we can say to them we understand the pain that they are experiencing and we are going to do something about it.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York called passage a “giant first step.”

The House had already passed its budget resolution, so the matter now goes into reconciliation as House and Senate committees have until February 16 to write the stimulus under instructions passed within the budget.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the committees of the House and Senate as they reconcile the two bills into one that will be signed by the president.
  • For those who are working on writing the stimulus package.
  • For God to accomplish His will through the proceedings in Congress.
