Madison Cawthorn

U.S. Representative for North Carolina

David Madison Cawthorn was born in August 1995 in Ashville, North Carolina.  He was homeschooled, and, as a teenager, worked at a Chick-fil-A restaurant. He studied political science at Patrick Henry College but did not graduate.

At the age of 18, he was injured when, as a passenger in an SUV, his friend fell asleep at the wheel and the vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier. Cawthorn was left partially paralyzed and uses a wheelchair.

He worked 18 months as a staffer for Congressman Mark Meadows. He is the owner of a real estate investment firm. He was elected as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, assuming his seat on January 3, 2021.

Cawthorn is engaged to be married. He is a Christian.

In the News…

Among the incoming lawmakers to the House of Representatives is Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina.

“This is the most diverse field of … freshmen we’ve ever had,” he said. “That has nothing to do with tokenism. That has nothing to do with us trying to have affirmative action within our ranks. … It transcends all races and all religions.”

The Generation Z politicians are bringing social freedom and “backbones of steel” to Washington, he said. He added, “We don’t want to force [our conservative values] on anybody else. What we care about is freedom and a limit of government. … We don’t care about what happens in your personal life, so long as it doesn’t hurt somebody else.”

“We are one Republic and I will stand for all Americans,” he told his supporters in a tweet.
