Senators Call for Commission on Capitol Security Failure

Independent group should look into the events of January 6th.

Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin have called for Congress to appoint an independent commission to investigate the demonstrations that occurred at the Capitol on January 6th.

“Congress should not be allowed to investigate itself when it comes to the massive security failures of January 6,” they wrote in a statement. “We are calling for an independent commission to be appointed to investigate the security failures that allowed the Capitol to be breached on January 6th resulting in five deaths.”

The commission, according to the senators, should consist of “nationally recognized, non-partisan security experts” and be established in the “spirit of other bipartisan commissions.”

Without a commission that is independent the investigation would “fall into the familiar territory of partisan squabbles ultimately resolving nothing,” the senators said.

“The U.S. Capitol is the people’s house and it belongs to the American people,” the senators stated. “We owe it to them to get to the bottom of this security failure which was a national embarrassment. A commission is the best opportunity for us to get the answers the American people deserve.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California has called for a “fact-finding” commission to investigate the events.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For officials conducting investigations into the events that occurred in the Capitol last week.
  • For Congress to consider an independent commission that would specifically look at security failures at the Capitol.
  • For peace in the nation’s capital at next week’s inauguration.
  • For the families who have lost loved ones as a result of violence at the Capitol.
