Secretary Pompeo Reports Iranian Support of al-Qaeda

Additional sanctions have been placed on Iran as a result.

On Tuesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated that al-Qaida “has a new home base” in Iran and that there has been cooperation between the two for decades. He announced that the Middle Eastern nation has been setting up back-channel networks with the terror group. As a result of this support, a new round of sanctions has been placed on Iran.

Secretary Pompeo asserted that al-Qaida’s presence in Afghanistan has been successfully reduced and that Iran is “the new Afghanistan.” He said, “Unlike in Afghanistan, when al-Qaida was hiding in the mountains, al-Qaida today is operating underneath the hard shell of the Iranian regime’s protection.”

“The Iran-al-Qaida axis threatens the progress of the Abraham Accords as well,” the secretary continued. “Every country must recognize that this unholy collusion is dramatically increasing the risk of terror attacks against their people.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the Lord to guide the U.S. in its activities in the Middle East.
  • That the State Department as it transitions to the coming administration.
  • For the Lord to give Secretary Pompeo wisdom in his diplomatic efforts.
