U.S. Lifts Restrictions on Relations with Taiwan

Secretary Pompeo announces self-imposed contact guidelines “null and void.”

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced over the weekend that the self-imposed diplomatic restrictions the U.S. had in place for interaction with Taiwan have been lifted. The regulations had been implemented in years past when relations with the Chinese government were normalized.

Secretary Pompeo stated, “Taiwan is a vibrant democracy and reliable partner of the United States, and yet for several decades the State Department has created complex internal restrictions to regulate our diplomats, service members, and other officials’ interactions with their Taiwanese counterparts.”

The secretary concluded, “Our two democracies share common values of individual freedom, the rule of law, and a respect for human dignity.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That the relationship between Taiwan and the U.S. would be strengthened by this action.
  • For the interaction between these two nations would benefit the citizens of both counties.
  • For Secretary Pompeo as he continues the work of the State Department.
